6th Grade

Monday: Continue working on their paper towel experiment.

Tuesday: Finish up the trials for the paper towel experiment. Begin working on the graph and conclusion.

Wednesday: Finish up and turn in paper towel experiment write up.

Thursday: Introduce the Science Fair. Talk about expectations and what all is involved.

Science Fair: All students will participate in the Science Fair. It must be completed at school. The students may work with a partner or work individually. They are responsible for all the materials needed for the Science Fair. I encourage all students to look around their house and find experiments that can be done with household items. They do not need to spend a ton of money on this project. There are hundreds of resources online that have experiment ideas. Please to not get science experiment confused with a science demonstration. The experiment must have an independent variable.  They must be changing something in each trial (ie. do all paper towels absorb the same amount of water? Does listening to different kinds of music effect your heart rate?). The projects shouldn't cost more than $5-10, at the very most. I encourage them to try to find something they can do for free. Students will have 5-7 school days to complete the actual experiment. The whole process will take several weeks. This project takes up a majority of the 1st quarter, so it will be a major part of their grade. I will be checking on them daily to make sure they are progressing and keeping up with where they should be. It will all be on their ipad, so if you'd like to see what they are doing, you can look in Pages and see their work.

Friday: Begin looking for Science Fair projects with partner.
