District Overview

Girard Unified School District 248 is a rural school district comprising approximately 263 square miles in southeast Kansas.

The majority of the district is located in Crawford County, with a small northwestern portion located in Neosho County. Much of the district's land is used for agricultural purposes.

USD 248 serves students through three schools:

R. V. Haderlein Elementary School

Grades: Pre-K through 5

Enrollment: Approximately 500 students

Built: 1954

Additions:
1972, 1974, 1978-79, 1987, 1995-96, 2015

Girard Middle School

Grades: 6-8

Enrollment: Approximately 250 students

Middle School: Converted in 1962

Additions:
1964, 1966-67, 1995-96, 2015

Girard High School

Grades: 9-12

Enrollment: Approximately 300 students

History: Rebuilt following a fire on October 24, 1964
